This is a draft of the 2nd edition of the Afforessian History of Capitalist Paradise. The first edition was published in 2011 and is available here: http://capitalistparadise.com/forums/threads/history-of-the-capitalist-paradise-2003-2011.8/ The Midgard Foundation: June 2003 - September 2004 On June 28th, 2003, Capitalist Paradise was founded the nation Midgard X. Midgard X served as both the founder and UN Delegate for the region. At this time, Midgard X was the sole decision-maker for the region. Extensive "Regional Awareness" efforts by Midgard X led the region to grow steadily under his leadership, and the regional population increased. In May 2004, the region grew to a recorded high of 131 nations. Midgard X led the region, but interfered very little in everyday affairs. The World Factbook Entry proclaimed Capitalist Paradise as a region where liberty was paramount, and with the single goal of having a government capable of leaving citizens alone. National Sovereignty was regarded as the primary virtue above all else. Midgard X was an objectivist, espousing the views of Ayn Rand, and the regional government praised pure laissez-faire capitalism. In June of 2004, Midgard X updated the World Factbook Entry, encouraging residents to endorse Kasblakistan as the next delegate as the region. Midgard X stated he was going on an extended vacation, and also encouraged residents to continue recruitment efforts in his absence. Neither advice seems to have been heeded, as in September 2004, Alkanen was the delegate of the region. The regional population had dwindled to 58 nations. The weakening region, lacking an active founder, became an desirable target for enemy invaders. Uncertainty and Invasion: September 2004 - March 2006 Midgard X ceased to exist in September 2004. Following his departure, the DEN Army, lead by The Real Adam Smith, seized control of the region. The DEN Army publicly pledged to take no action against the natives of the region, claiming "Casinos will remain open", as long as natives endorsed the DEN delegate. The Ten thousand Island Treaty Organization (TITO) defensive forces managed to liberate Capitalist Paradise from the DEN. The raid was controversial as TITO forces ejected the raiders, as well as some long time natives of the region. After TITO restored the Capitalist Paradise to internal control. Serine became the next delegate, who led the Capitalist Paradise from November 2004, to February 2005. The region was password protected to prevent future invasions, but the password further exacerbated the dwindling population. By February 2005, the region had no delegate all, with only 26 nations remaining. Saint Troy, another native of the region managed to be elected delegate, but continued the password policy. By the end of April there were no longer enough nations in Capitalist Paradise to support a UN delegate, only nine nations remained. ...more to come.
